BDPA has served as an invaluable bridge between the community and the information technology (IT) industry. BDPA is a member-focused technology organization that delivers programs and services for the professional well being of its stakeholders. BDPA is committed to delivering IT excellence to our members, strategic partners, the technology industry and the African American communities.

We offer career counseling, technological assistance, interpersonal networking opportunities, professional mentorship, business & technical workshops, creative competitions and more to our IT professional membership, to our communities and to students eager to join the information age.

BDPA was founded in May of 1975 by program analyst Earl Pace, Jr. and David Wimberly, vice president of a financial data processing company. Concerned that minorities were not adequately represented in the computer industry, they organized the first chapter in Philadelphia. Three years later the second chapter was organized by Norman R. Mays in Washington, DC.

The Cleveland, Ohio chapter was also founded by Norman R. Mays in 1980 and was accepted as the third member of the national organization in March 1980.

Today, this national nonprofit organization encompasses of 40+ local chapters and several thousand members in the United States.  x
